Okay I just finished this last night at 1 am and I don’t know where to start with this book. It was so much and it felt long but it was so good.
Usually when books feel long to me, I don’t find them to be interesting. But that wasn’t the case with this one, which confused me for a while. Then I realized why. It felt long because, while yes this is a book that kept me turning the pages, it’s also one where I had to slow down and even stop and put down the book to think for a moment. It was so much because I found so many lessons in it. It was as if most of the things you learn about life over the course of it were integrated throughout this book. And I loved it for that.
But I think the main reason that I loved it for was for the writing. The lines read like poetry and it wasn’t just a few lines throughout, but almost all of them. It was so pretty because I don’t think I’ve read a novel where the span of it reads as poetry. Not the story as a whole, but every line that I read, individually read as poetry. If you get what I mean (sorry if all that was confusing).
Something that I found confusing was the beginning of the book though. It was written as if the reader would know everything that is going on in that world, when really we don’t have a clue yet. But I think that was the point and I would love to read the beginning again to understand it better now.
While that was about the beginning, I don’t know if I liked the last idea in the book. Spoiler – I didn’t like that she would hate Luc now and turn the tables on him. I guess in theory it makes sense, but I just don’t understand how she’s not tired after such a long time and hating just takes even more effort than loving does.
But overall, I lowkey loved this book. The ideas were genius, the lessons were amazing, the characters were perfect, and I don’t know how she writes so beautifully.
Ps. I had a sequel idea (I don’t think it should be a thing, but I just wanted to write it down anyways)
The next book could be Luc’s pov and the first chapter could start with nothing being important to him. “Everything was darkness. Centuries and eons of just the dark. Then, she called my name.” But it wouldn’t be his pov of the same scenes in this book, instead it would start at where this one left off and he would fall even more in love and we would be able to see Adeline’s revenge arc.
