Currently writing this with tear stained cheeks because that was an insane ending. I’m going to make this a no spoilers review because I want you to live through that ending. Honestly I want to say I saw it coming because it was a little thought in my head in the early chapters but then it never came back so that ending actually hurt me. I was in class but I couldn’t stop reading it, so my eyes were filling with tears IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS, so I made myself stop and read it later and that’s when I actually cried.
I saw this on my kindle and didn’t even read the synopsis of it, saw that it was written by Rebecca Yarros, and immediately started reading it. Yarros is an amazing writer, both in the fantasy genre and this fictional genre as well. I’ve read Fourth Wing and Variation (and while I’ll say I loved both of these novels better than this one), I loved the writing and the characters in this one as well. I loved Chaos and his letters and Havoc and his protection, and I loved Maisie and Colt and their bond, and I admire Ella because she is so strong. I can say that I am not as strong as her, that her view on life is what I need to learn from because she went through hell and still didn’t back down. These characters are worth knowing and loving.
Just for a recommendation though, to plug these other novels in – Fourth Wing is a great series (that I haven’t finished yet). The first book though, Fourth Wing, is amazing and the world in that captures you and drags you into itself. You dream of dragons being your best friends and wishing you could fight like these students. So go read. And Variation, I loved it so much that I went out and bought an actual copy of it to keep (I also read that on my kindle). This is saying something because I don’t buy books before I’ve read them, I only buy them afterwards if it becomes one that I just need to have. So go read. And go read The Last Letter too and let me know what you think of the ending!
